OPTIMAL PROTECTION
The ANTONIO is also equipped with the PU/PU sole WELLMAXX SAFETY-GRIP. It is extremely grippy and has a sole core made of Infinergy® from BASF, which returns more than half of the energy expended when walking back to the wearer.
This helps protect the joints and keeps the feet fit for longer. A PU toecap protects the upper material at the tip of the shoe, while a steel toecap and metal-free penetration protection made from recycled materials provide the necessary safety. GORE-TEX Performance Comfort Footwear on the inside also ensures a pleasant foot climate by regulating moisture and ensuring breathability. Thanks to the heel edge (Laddergrip) in the sole profile, it is also suitable for safe use on ladders. As EXTRAGUARD is a new technology from Gore and we wanted to find out a little more, we spoke to Helmut Klug, Key Account Manager at Gore.
Mr Klug, with the ‘Antonio XXSG GTX Mid ESD S3S WR CI’ model, ELTEN has launched a safety shoe featuring the new EXTRAGUARD upper material technology from Gore for the first time. What makes this upper material so special?
‘EXTRAGUARD is an upper material technology that combines the advantages of robust materials such as leather with those of lightweight, breathable textiles. The new upper material consists of three layers: an outer layer that is highly abrasion-resistant and robust, the functional layer, that can be adjusted in thickness depending on the area of use, and the innovative inner construction layer. This three-layer upper material is sealed with GORE-SEAM® tape and then combined with the GORE-TEX lining, the so-called bootie construction, to create a safety shoe. The result is a shoe that is not only extremely hard-wearing and waterproof, but also significantly lighter than other robust safety shoes. EXTRAGUARD maintains its shape and colour even under intensive use. Additionally, safety shoes with the new upper material technology are extremely easy to care for: simple cleaning with water is completely sufficient, no leather care products are necessary.’
How does EXTRAGUARD affect the functionality of the shoe?
‘EXTRAGUARD ensures that the shoe remains permanently waterproof – even without impregnation and despite any damage to the upper material. The shoe construction absorbs virtually no moisture from the outside, resulting in a significantly lower weight gain, even in extreme weather conditions. As EXTRAGUARD shoes cannot become saturated with water, this reduces the formation of cold bridges – feet remain dry and warm, even if the shoe is worn in the rain for long periods.’
