What does the LWG do?
The aim of the LWG is to create a global sustainability standard for leather production. The not-for-profit organisation focuses on improving environmental standards ans transparency in leather production.

To achieve this, leather production companies (tanneries) are audited on various aspects of their production, including water and energy consumption, waste management, air and noise pollution and chemical management. Similarly, traders and suppliers are checked to see if they are able to trace their products.
ELTEN supports the work of the LWG
Even though we at ELTEN do not produce leather ourselves, we are committed to supporting responsible leather production around the world and are therefore a proud member of the LWG
ELTEN therefore strives to use leather that comes from tanneries that are audited according to the LWG protocol. In 2022, the leather share from tanneries audited according to the LWG protocol was already more than 90%. The goal is to increase this share to at least 95% by 2025.
In addition to leather, we use plastics, textiles and other materials for our shoes. We act as sustainably as these products allow. The protective function of our shoes remains our top priority. As part of our sustainability strategy, we are always working on products that use innovative, environmentally friendly and recyclable material alternatives. The same applies to our packaging material, which helps us reduce waste in the long term.
