MUST HAVE A HEAD FOR HEIGHTS

THE PROFESSION OF A ROOFER IS VARIED AND NOT ENTIRELY DANGER-FREE

A secure footing is vital! In order to feel safe on roofs, S3 safety footwear is the right choice. The extremely secure foothold that a shoe must give the wearer is absolutely essential. Protruding nails or roof tiles that fall from the pile – penetration protection and toe protection provide optimal protection for the foot. Within the context of energy-efficient renovation measures, roofers should also use ESD shoes. Whether BOA® Fit System, buckle fastening or classic lacing – the focus here is on achieving the perfect fit and personal preference. Emphasis is also placed on the heat resistance of the safety footwear – 50 to 90 degree temperatures are not uncommon in summer; temperatures of up to 300 degrees Celsius are even encountered when laying welding sheets. You are also perfectly equipped for rainy days with the GORE-TEX climate membrane. Safety shoes for roofers and carpenters are very important to ensure grip and good protection from heat and external dangers.

SELECTION OF PRODUCTS

FIREPROOF SEAMS AND LACES

WELDED SHEETING ON FLAT ROOFS

When it comes to roof sealing, an in particular the welding of bitumen membranes on flat roofs, shoes must be able to withstand a great deal – and, above all, they must have heat resistance of up to 300°C. Therefore, roofers’ shoes such as our ANDERSON Loop S3 HI feature heat-resistant laces made of NOMEX® and are also sewn with a fire-resistant thread.

NON-SLIP TREAD, FLEXIBLE SOLES

A secure footing is particularly important when working on a roof. Rain, dirt, or moss can quickly cause roofers and carpenters to slip. Therefore, you should wear standard-compliant and non-slip safety shoes. Rubber outsoles are particularly suitable as they are abrasion-resistant and can withstand temperatures of up to 300°C for short periods of time. However, they should definitely be heel-less, flat, and have a good grip. A secure footing is crucial, therefore shoes worn on a roof should have an excellent slip-resistance. Shoes with an SR certification provide a slip-resistance that exceeds the basic requirement, because it passes the additional slip-resistance test on ceramic tiles with glycerine.

NO TIRED FEET

WELLMAXX

Roofers and carpenters are on their feet for several hours each day. They move around a lot on hard surfaces, stand on the roof for long periods of time or work in a squatting position. For the feet, this means a heavy load. We prevent this problem with our WELLMAXX series! The innovative Infinergy® cushioning material in the sole core, from BASF, noticeably relieves the feet.

WITH ONE TURN

BOA® FIT SYSTEM

The BOA® Fit System allows the safety shoes to be tightened and loosened quickly, safely, and comfortably – with just one hand! The lacing “stays put” all day long, thus ensuring a permanently precise fit. Other benefits include no loose laces hanging down and the fact that the BOA® Fit System is extremely durable – perfect for the harsh conditions of the construction industry.

PROTECTED AGAINST ABRASION

PROTECTIVE SCUFF CAP

The material at the toe of the shoe wears off particularly quickly, especially if you work a lot on your knees. Therefore, the toe of the shoe should be reinforced with abrasion-resistant scuff cap. As a result, the upper material in the front area of the shoe is permanently protected against abrasion – and the service life of the safety shoe is increased.

ORTHOPAEDIC FOOT PROTECTION

CERTIFIED ACCORDING TO EN ISO 20345/20347 (DGUV 112-191)

Many people develop foot problems during the course of their lives. Often it is not necessary to have these conditions treated orthopaedically. If your feet still hurt, our semi-orthopaedic insoles can help. If you develop an orthopaedic condition, special orthopaedic insoles are essential. A large proportion of the ELTEN collection is certified for orthopaedic adjustments in accordance with EN ISO 20345/20347 (DGUV 112-191). The orthopaedic shoemaker / medical supply store can make orthopaedic changes, without the shoe losing its protective function.

ERGO-ACTIVE FIT CONCEPT

Besides the correct width, other factors contribute to achieving the right fit. In order to address typical problems regarding fit (too wide, too narrow, too short), we have developed the Ergo-Active 2.0 system. We distinguish between three different foot types:

  • Type 1 (for larger feet),
  • Type 2 (for average feet),
  • Type 3 (for narrower feet).

MULTIPLE WIDTH FIT CONCEPT

The feet of craftsmen have to endure a lot – so their shoes have to fit perfectly. That is why we offer some of our models in three different widths:

  • W (For the average width foot)
  • XW (For the wider foot)
  • XXW (For the very wide foot)

The comfortable multi-width system provides each foot with the individual space it requires. Since the toe cap has also “grown” in width, the necessary volume in the forefoot area is maintained.

LADIES FIT CONCEPT

LADIES HAVE A NARROWER FIT

Women’s feet are different to men’s: they are narrower and flatter than those of men with the same shoe size. For this reason, we have special women’s models within our range, which offer appropriate solutions to meet the requirements of female foot anatomy.

PENETRATION PROTECTION

In the safety classes S1P or S3, we offer models with a metal-free midsole as well as a steel midsole. Metal-free midsoles have the advantage of covering almost the entire surface of the sole, whereas metal midsoles cover only about 85% of the surface. The metal-free midsole is more flexible, while the metal penetration resists sharper objects. The point, sharpness, and shape of cutting objects play a less important role with metal than with the metal-free counterpart.

STEEL VS. SYNTHETIC TOE CAP

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

Steel caps are stronger than caps made of other materials and are unbreakable – even under high loads. They have a slimmer appearance than synthetic caps, for example. synthetic toe caps are about one third lighter than steel caps and thus reduce the overall weight. They are particularly suitable for areas in which metal is not allowed. ELTEN always uses glass fibre for its metal-free caps.

LEATHER VS. TEXTILE

WHICH MATERIAL SHOULD I CHOOSE?

A shoe is only as good as the materials from which it is made, quality makes all the difference. This represents one good reason why we use high-quality leather and high-tech materials. Each material has its advantages. Leather, for example, is characterised simultaneously by its good breathability, durability, dimensional stability, and flexibility. Textile products offer greater scope, as they are more versatile in terms of structure and surface design. The textile material, Cordura®, offers extreme tear and abrasion resistance, is dirt and water-repellent, and dries quickly.

PREVENT SWEATY FEET

THANKS TO BREATHABLE SAFETY FOOTWEAR

All ELTEN safety footwear is equipped with a breathable textile lining, and in some cases even a Gore-Tex climate membrane, which allows the feet to breathe. Shoes only remain breathable in the long term if you give them a little care now and then. If the shoe becomes too dirty on the outside, this can lead to its upper material, or its climate membrane being restricted in terms of breathability. The dirt acts like an impermeable shield. Therefore, the shoes should be regularly brushed and disinfected from the inside.

MYTH: THERMAL BRIDGE

If you think that a textile midsole will insulate better against the cold compared to a steel midsole, because of it is metal-free, we are sorry to disappoint you. Here is an example from our RENZO family: according to EN ISO 20345, both the RENZO Biomex ESD S3 (metal-free midsole) and the RENZO Mid ESD S3 (steel midsole) are tested for cold insulation. Based on the test procedure, there is no difference between the models. The drop in temperature must not exceed 10 degrees Celsius and is around 5 degrees Celsius for both models.

INSOLES

Semi-orthopaedic insoles close the gap between the foot profile and the flat bottom of the shoe, thus preventing pain and damage in the knee, foot, and hip area as a result of excessive load. They are light, dynamic, and pleasantly supportive. Feet and lower legs tire more slowly.
